If I didn't like you, I would have left you to fend for yourself long ago.
[IORI?
He's such a jerk, honestly, I hope Mika has learned this. His harsh words always come with such gentle actions, though, such as pushing the plate forward a little more. Take a pastry, drink your water, boy.]
Those are called pheromones. It seems that they're a common Cordis trait. You're emitting them as well. [He clears his throat a little with his free hand covering his mouth.] I thought that if you continued to act in such a friendly manner, I might act on impulses outside of my control. I also thought that you were acting outside of your control, so for both of our sakes, I avoided you as much as possible.
[Now, he turns his gaze back on Mika, firm.]
You've proven you can't take care of yourself by passing out in the middle of the floor like that. If you were worried, you should have just asked me. [... And he should have just said what he was doing, but details.]
( well that's... blunt. but, you know what, maybe it's for the better. helps it get through mika's thick skull that he means what he says when he says it, and also, they're words with a good meaning despite their sharp delivery; even with his own doubts in himself, mika can understand what iori is getting at with that. in any case, noting the way the food is pushed towards him, he lets the cat be and instead makes to grab the water, holding it in his hands carefully, and sipping at it as iori explains the whole pheromone deal going on.
mika had kind of understood the gist of it, had gone out of his way to make sure he did, but still. hearing that iori's avoidance had come from a place of concern rather than disdain is... a little bit reassuring. the rest of it, he's a little insulted, but a little resigned to the fact that it's kind of true. those black ears at the top of his head flatten slightly, and he interjects. )
To be fair, yanno we didn't really have to worry 'bout Chroma back home.
( he thought it was just money and not, like, food, where he has to actually keep track of his intake. )
An' if ya were uncomfortable with that, ya could'a just told me, too, instead of goin' outta yer way to avoid me. Ya had me real spooked, after all.
( sure, iori feels pretty irresistible, even now, but mika'd like to think that if he knows someone's uncomfortable with his actions, he can rein himself in. )
[There's a long pause where Iori thinks on that. It's true that he could have just communicated, but that... Why didn't he? Well... He knows why. But how can he explain that properly? That he's afraid of ruining their friendship? That he might come on too strong and ruin things afterwards? That he doesn't want to get rid of the only new friend he's made here?
He looks away, down at his lap, his own ears lowering slightly.]
I wasn't uncomfortable, Kagehira-san. Rather, I didn't want to make you uncomfortable. [His tail flicks, whapping lightly against the side of Mika's thigh once without him really noticing or paying any mind to it.]
But you're right. I should have said something, since it's an unusual situation for the both of us. I'm sorry.
( the pause is a little awkward, a little concerning, but it doesn't have a bad conclusion, luckily! mika is quick to jump in as iori finishes up what he's saying, somewhat flustered. )
Ya don't have to apologize or nothin', yer gonna make me embarrassed.
( and he sure looks it, sheepish smile with brows pushed together almost apologetically himself. he hadn't meant it to be scolding, but looking back on the words, maybe they came out that way, and that's why iori is apologizing to him now. in any case, mika's not mad — he's way too relieved about the whole situation to be. instead, he visibly relaxes somewhat, shoulders falling more comfortably and ears straightening out, perking up really, as he reaches forward to set down the water and exchange it for a bite of the pastry instead. )
Anyway, I oughta apologize for the scare too. I'll try an' keep a better eye on it, so ya don't have to worry about me.
[Hmm. He's going to worry about Mika regardless of what he says. In fact, he feels like he was careless, this time around... He ended up on the floor because of him? Iori hesitates, then reaches into his pocket where he'd shoved the cat pins from earlier.]
I don't want to find you on the floor again, so just tell me if there's anything bothering you rather than holding it back like that.
[Huffier, slightly, with the color in his cheeks, now he holds out his hand insistently. If Mika pauses from his pastry enough to open his own, Iori will drop both cat pins into it, though he's refusing to look at him directly.]
By chance, I came across these... There's nothing that I can do with them, anyway, so I thought I'd give them to you.
( he's about to object — finding him on the floor isn't a common thing, honest (although it kind of is). before he can though, he finds iori's hand held out to him, and since he'd already set down the pastry in readiness to reply, mika's hands are free to accept what's held out to him. he blinks down at the two pins, shiny and new, and feels his face heating up somewhat once more, a rose colour burning itself into his cheeks. )
Eh? Ya really got 'em for me?
( he's simple; if iori says he doesn't have a use for them, mika supposes he must not. even so... )
Are ya sure? They're awful cute, an' ya know, ya didn't have to get me anythin' for it.
( actually, he doesn't remember telling iori his birthday was coming up, but this timing... it's a little too close to be a coincidence, isn't it? or maybe christmas? either way, mika is caught off somewhat, unprepared for such an unprompted act of kindness. )
